Widefield Projects
Widefield is a contemporary art platform dedicated to the production of artist multiples. Established in 2016, the project began with Exhibitions on Paper, a silkscreen artist edition series that invited artists to view paper as a unique exhibition space. Today, Widefield focuses on producing and showcasing limited artist editions across various techniques, creating objects that can be exhibited over time.
Widefield has been featured at international publishing fairs in Basel, Zurich, and Geneva, as well as in numerous art spaces across Switzerland and Europe.
Proposal
Conceived as a “futuristic archaeology of the everyday,” this exhibition brings together six artists based in Switzerland who engage the body, gesture, and ordinary objects to explore what it means to live under the accelerating pulse of digitalization and neoliberalism. Foregrounding artisanal and skill-based practices, the works reclaim time and materiality as sites of resistance and poetic imagination.
The display is imagined as an installation in which everyday furniture becomes sculptural once activated by the works. With a focus on casting techniques and metal, the selection brings together small-scale pieces exploring fictional narratives within daily life, where objects become symbols of change to come.
Jonathan Vidal
Jonathan Vidal (*1990, FR) is an artist based in Geneva and Marseille.
In recent years, his practice has primarily focused on the analysis and formal description of neoliberal doctrines and their underlying violence. He has actively built an archive of texts and images (ranging from advertising visuals to article quotations) from a collection of books and magazines such as The Economist, covering a period from the 1990s to the early 2000s. In his work, the transition from theory to form often occurs through speculative narratives. He revisits fragments from these sources and reinterprets them in painting, drawing, and sculpture. Vidal’s work tends toward the construction of a speculative logic that highlights and plays with the symbolic dysfunctions and beliefs attached to these value systems. He graduated from HEAD-Geneva and ESADMM (Marseille).
Matheline Marmy
Matheline Marmy (*1993, CH) is an artist working primarily with sculpture and installation. She works with malleable and reactive materials such as metals, water, salts, textiles, and organic elements, exploring interactions between matter and human gestures. Her work has been exhibited at institutions including Centre d’Art Contemporain Genève, Stadtgalerie Bern, Photoforum Pasquart, Kunsthaus Langenthal, Fluxum Foundation, Het New Museum, and TENT, as well as independent spaces. She has participated in residencies at Centre for Advanced Study-Landis Gyr Foundation (Sofia), La Becque (La Tour-de-Peilz), Cité Internationale des Arts (Paris), and Pro Helvetia (Berlin), and is currently undertaking a residency fellowship in South Africa with Pro Helvetia – Swiss Arts Council. She holds a BA in photography from ECAL and an MA in fine arts from the Piet Zwart Institute, Rotterdam.
Sabrina Fernandez Casas
