Ulstrup Gallery
Ulstrup Gallery, Copenhagen
Ulstrup Gallery is an ultra-contemporary art gallery offering cutting-edge contemporary exhibitions and unique art experiences designed to challenge, fascinate, and excite art enthusiasts. Ulstrup Gallery aims to provide a platform for a diverse selection of mid-career and emerging artists on an international scale. The hybrid approach of online and physical exhibitions allows their artists to connect with an international audience while also offering national audiences the opportunity to experience the artworks in real-life settings. By blending digital accessibility with physical exhibitions, Ulstrup Gallery bridges the gap between virtual engagement and tangible art encounters, forming a dynamic and inclusive art community.
Proposal
Ulstrup Gallery proposes a solo presentation of Danish artist Abel Kabel (b. 2000), whose
rapidly developing practice positions him as a compelling new voice within the Danish
contemporary art scene.
The curatorial framework for the booth builds upon Kabel’s ongoing investigation of “the web”,
understood both as a visual structure and as a conceptual condition. Expanding on his recent
solo exhibitions WEB DEPICTIONS (Copenhagen) and Got Guts (Aarhus), the presentation
explores how digital entanglement and everyday experiences collapse into one another in the
life of a young generation.
Abel Kabel
Kabel’s work operates at the intersection of painting and sculpture, combining raw materiality with a deliberately unrefined aesthetic. His “crummy sculptures” and expressive paintings speak of immediacy and vulnerability, resisting polished narratives in favor of something more instinctive and emotionally direct. Drawing from urban environments, online imagery, and autobiographical fragments, his practice reflects on identity formation, resilience, and nostalgia without sentimentality. Rooted in his own lived experiences, Kabel’s works remain open and immediate, allowing personal narratives to unfold into something widely relatable.
