ShapeeroMurray
ShapeeroMurray (Glasgow)
ShapeeroMurray is a new gallery run by artists Beth Shapeero and Andy Murray. Initiated in 2023 in response to the current funding climate and lack of financial stability faced by the majority of artists working in Scotland, the artist-led gallery aims to connect artists with new markets and build a more sustainable future for their practice.
As artists themselves, Beth and Andy bring a first-hand understanding of what it means to make and sustain a creative practice. This artist-led approach informs every aspect of the gallery, from the artists they work with to the opportunities they create. Their deep connections across Scotland’s art community also enable ShapeeroMurray to champion artists who remain underrepresented within the commercial gallery system.
ShapeeroMurray’s mission is to build a platform for artists, helping them access markets and create new opportunities that might otherwise remain beyond reach. The gallery seeks to challenge the status quo and hierarchical structures of the commercial art world, advocating for a fairer and more equitable distribution of resources and capital.
At its core, ShapeeroMurray is committed to recognising talent, ambition and sustained commitment in artists, while protecting their autonomy and creating the conditions for remarkable practices to continue to develop and thrive.
Proposal
ShapeeroMurray (Glasgow) will present Glasgow-based artists Erica Eyres and Sandra de Matos in a two-person presentation of wall-based works at SWAB Barcelona.
The presentation will feature large-scale, unframed works on paper by Sandra de Matos alongside small oil paintings on canvas by Erica Eyres. Both artists depict uncanny characters and “strange heads,” exploring the unsettling and enigmatic qualities of the human figure.
The presentation will also include additional works on paper by both artists, as well as ShapeeroMurray’s 35 × 35 print series, which will be available to view in boxes displayed on a table within the booth.
Sandra de Matos (Seine Saint-Denis, 1986) is a visual artist based in Glasgow. She studied at the Royal College of Art, graduating in 2012with an MA in Visual Communication. Her drawings take inspiration from horror films and television – in particular make-over shows. The strangeness of the everyday and the idea of transformation informs her work. She primarily uses oil-bar, watercolour gouache and cut outs when realising her visions.
Sandra co-programs the Cineclube Aparição, Monthly film series in Lisbon with Charleine Boieiro. Since 2011, the artist has also been collaborating with Laura Scott on a correspondence project where drawings are exchanged and modified via fax machines.

Erica Eyres (b. 1980, Winnipeg) is a Glasgow-based visual artist. Eyres’ work focuses on the relationship between humour and art, specifically deadpan comedy as a methodology in contemporary art practice. Through videos, drawings and sculptures, Eyres’ inter-disciplinary practice explores narrative fallacies. Her absurd aesthetic complicates the viewer’s understanding of the author’s subjective truth and problematises the notion of the autobiographical.
Eyres has been exhibiting internationally since 2004. Recent solo exhibitions include Memory Problems, Norberg Hall, Alberta (2025); Do I Have to Love You?, OTP Copenhagen (2023); Fascinated Witness, Korai Gallery, Nicosia, Cyprus (2019); Alone and I, Queen’s Park Railway Club, Glasgow (2017). Recent group exhibitions include Private Behaviour at White Columns, New York (2020); Real-Time at Seventeen Gallery, London (2020); and Mark-Making: Perspectives on Drawing at GoMA, Glasgow.
