Palmadotze

Palmadotze (Els Monjos, Barcelona)

The gallery began its activities in 1989 and, since relocating to its current space in 2012, has developed a well-established programme with a coherent trajectory and a clearly defined artistic direction.

Palmdotze is located 45 km from Barcelona, in a traditional Catalan farmhouse (masía) set within the Penedès wine-growing region. Its location, removed from the urban context, is an essential part of its identity. The space offers a unique setting, fostering an experience that differs from that of conventional urban exhibition circuits.

The programme brings together emerging and established artists through exhibitions, curated projects, and site-specific proposals, with particular attention to the relationship between artistic practices, the space, and its surrounding context.

Proposal

The project Collecting Time explores the shared gesture of Helena Civit Kopeinig and Paula García Masedo of collecting natural materials as a method of artistic practice, research, and creation. For both artists, this act entails a relationship with time: they arrive in the wake of nature’s processes, transforming objects into fragments of duration that hold the memory of their transformation. Creation is conceived as a belated form of listening, acknowledging that the artwork begins long before the artist’s intervention.

Helena Civit Kopeinig

Helena Civit Kopeinig (Villach, Austria, 1997) develops an artistic practice focused on the relationship between body, nature, and memory. Her work often stems from organic processes and materials that evoke transformation, mutation, and temporality. Through sculpture, installation, and subtle interventions, she explores how natural forms can become a language.

Her work suggests an attentive gaze towards slow rhythms and the invisible processes that shape reality. There is a poetic dimension to her understanding of matter: each element seems to contain a latent story, a form of writing revealed through contemplation. Kopeinig works from a sensibility that brings together fragility and resilience, lightness and density.

Her visual universe is constructed through delicate balances that invite an immersive and introspective experience. In this context, the artistic gesture becomes an act of mediation between the world and the gaze, in which the viewer actively participates in the construction of meaning.

Helena Civit Kopeinig is a visual artist and craftsperson. She lives and works in Barcelona. She graduated in Fine Arts from the University of Barcelona (2019) and subsequently studied graphic and editorial design at Escola Massana (2020–21). Since 2023, she has been an artist-in-residence at La Escocesa, where she develops her artistic practice and participates in the collective management of the space.

More recently, her practice has focused on material genealogies in which the graphic languages of writing emerged and developed, tracing a glossary of stories, objects, associations, gestures, and encounters. Through sculptural work, she explores the intelligible limits of the sign, its accidents, and its corporeal existence.

Her work has been presented in solo exhibitions at Homesession (Una visión incierta, INVITED 2024) and at ProjecteSD gallery (Remains, as part of Art Nou 2021), as well as in group exhibitions at venues including the Lluerna Festival (Fundació Miró, Barcelona), La Nuu Festival (Rubí), ProjecteSD gallery (Barcelona), and Fundació Felícia Fuster (Barcelona). She was awarded the Sala d’Art Jove Prize in 2025 and is currently developing the project Words are a Kind of Shape.

Paula García-Masedo
