Ona Galería
Ona Galería (La Habana)
Ona Galería is an independent curatorial collective and art gallery based in Havana, directed by curators Patricia García (Holguín, 1996) and Enzzo Hernández (Havana, 1992).
Conceived as a flexible space for experimentation, dialogue, and critical visibility, it foregrounds emerging and independent artistic practices operating at the intersection of queer perspectives and contemporary poetics.
The project places particular emphasis on queer artists and communities, women-led practices, and proposals that explore diverse expressions and gender identities.
Proposal
Through digital collages, objects, and installations, Alejandro Cañer examines the circulation of images between memory, desire, and consumption, articulating a visual repertoire in which propaganda, popular culture, and queer identity reveal the persistence of the Cuban political imaginary.
Roberto Guerra’s practice brings together graphic art, drawing, and digital processes to transpose glitch and cartoon into the field of painting. Here, distortion operates as a way of reading Cuban reality, shifting the hierarchies between tradition, mass culture, and image production.
Working through distinct visual languages, both artists understand the image as a field of negotiation between fiction, visual culture, and the production of subjectivities. Through appropriation, the archive, and distortion, their practices examine the ways in which the imaginaries that shape post-socialist experience in the Caribbean are produced and circulated.
Alejandro Cañer (Cienfuegos, Cuba, 2001) initially trained as an actor at the Santa Clara Academy of Performing Arts, a formative foundation that continues to inform the theatrical tension and performative density present throughout his practice. Moving fluidly between digital art, video, performance, and installation, Cañer constructs a visual language in which fiction, spectacle, and social choreography converge.
His work often stages subtle negotiations between historical memory and contemporary desire, examining how images circulate within systems of seduction, ideological conditioning, and cultural consumption. Through recurring references to queer identity, erotic advertising, the aesthetics of propaganda, popular melodrama, and the performative fabric of everyday life in Cuba, Cañer develops a practice attentive to the mechanisms through which visibility is produced, regulated, and metabolized. Rather than offering direct statements, his practice operates through atmospheres of ambiguity, excess, and coded theatricality, exposing the fragile boundaries between intimacy and spectacle, persuasion and desire, collective ritual and individual agency.
He has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions both in Cuba and abroad, including La noche me confunde at ONA Galería (2023), Me cansé de ser buena at ONA Galería (2024), De la Isla a la Luna 2.0 at Presidio Modelo (2025), Salón de Belleza (2025), and Mientras el día no cierre II at Galería Continua La Habana (2026). In 2024, he participated in the 15th Havana Biennial and received third prize in the Post-it Contemporary Art Competition for his work Fiestas Populares. Cañer is currently undertaking a seven-month residency at La Villa Dufraine in Paris, awarded by the Fondation Bernard Grau and the Académie des Beaux-Arts.

Roberto Guerra (Havana, Cuba, 1997), known as Loopfly, is an emerging visual artist and graduate of the San Alejandro Academy of Fine Arts.
His practice moves between contemporary graphic art, expanded drawing, and digital experimentation, articulating a visual language in which cartoons intersect with the tradition of painting.
Cartoons and animated figures operate as devices of irony and distortion, questioning notions of style, authorship, and the canon.
His practice forms part of a contemporary current that engages with popular visual culture and responds to an image-saturated environment, in which painting becomes a space for reincarnating, deforming, and placing historical languages under tension. Since 2018, he has participated in exhibition projects and collaborated with platforms dedicated to young art in Cuba.
He lives and works in Havana.
