La Fundició (L’Hospitalet de Llobregat)

LaFundició fosters situated processes to collectively institute material and symbolic practices, forms of relationship and knowledges, understood as common-pool resources.

Founded in 2006, LaFundició has rooted its practices in the city of L’Hospitalet, promoting spaces from which to build networks of mutual support, and from which to question how culture—as a sphere of meaning production—can intertwine with the fabric of life and forms of material production: spaces from which to experiment with communal and controversial cultural practices grounded in the interdependence of individuals and their socio-ecosystems. An everyday, ordinary culture.

Proposal

Les Juntes is a community-managed, scattered-site housing cooperative. It grew out of a mutual support network that LaFundició, together with other organisations, has been fostering for over a decade in the La Florida neighbourhood of L’Hospitalet. Its aim is to guarantee the right to housing while also serving as a space for neighbourhood self-organisation, building material and symbolic sovereignty.

Its strategy is to rescue homes from the speculative market, turn them into cooperative housing and place the land under communal ownership.

The project rests on two pillars: producing and caring for urban commons, and fostering a culture rooted in their management and use, one capable of generating organisational tools that sustain life.
