Halfhouse
Halfhouse (Barcelona)
Halfhouse is a fusion of a home and a space for artistic exchange and communication. One of its aims is to prioritize direct work with artists, support for production, and the critical development of its programme. Halfhouse is an initiative founded by artists Sinéad Spelman and Alberto Peral.
Andrea Aguilera Ruiz (Bilbao, 1997) works with the photographic image as an impulse and with sculpture as a desire. Her practice is grounded in the investigation and exploration of the spaces that emerge between the two. Through these encounters, she emphasizes strength within vulnerability, giving new meaning to what is invisible and overlooked.
She holds a degree in Art from Euskal Herriko Unibertsitatea and has trained at PRAXIS, fluent’s educational structure and format, and at JAI, Jardun Artistikoentzako Institutua. She has developed her work through residencies at institutions including Matadero (Madrid) and Tabakalera (Donostia).
She has held solo exhibitions at La Papeleria (Madrid), and has participated in group exhibitions at Black Maritxu (Arrieta), Zelaieta (Amorebieta-Etxano), Les Pralines (Basel), CArteC (Madrid), Aire (Bilbao), and Sala Rekalde (Bilbao), among others. In autumn 2026, she will exhibit at Espacio Gaviota (Madrid), together with Leo Burge, and at t.o.c (Barcelona), together with Sergi Aguilar.
Her publications include Nunca, Leeré, Caso, Mejilla, a short essay produced in collaboration with Mar Reykjavik that questions the ways in which the photographic image is read (Brillo Editorial).
She has received the 10th Santander Foundation Award for Artistic Production, in collaboration with Open Studio.
