Dam Dam (Translocal)

Damdam is a constellation of collectives engaged in translocal exchanges of knowledge and resources, using art institutions as a platform to learn from and support each other. By connecting diverse cultures and local struggles, we foster an interconnected ecosystem that enables long-term sustainable collective practices and shared goals.

Proposal

Building a House Without Books

When a house ceases to be a stable place, what happens to the objects that held our memories, knowledge, and relationships? Who keeps our books when we are constantly on the move? Where do they survive when we no longer have a space we can call our own? Building a House Without Books starts from the idea of the book as an intimate infrastructure; an object that holds, preserves, and carries knowledge and collective affections, but that also depends on other infrastructures in order to circulate and survive.

The presentation brings together a series of objects that function as material substitutes for the book and the bookshelf. These objects imagine other ways of containing, transporting, and preserving what remains of a house once the house is no longer there. The participating collectives and artists propose alternatives through which books—and the relationships they generate around them—can survive the absence of a stable space.
