Proposal

Everyone loves gossip. ainda takes one of Brazil’s national passions as the theme of its international debut. Felipe Barsuglia and Gabriel Secchin, the artists who founded the project, bring their respective painting practices to SWAB without, however, collapsing them into one another. Placed side by side, the works form accidental diptychs that blur the boundaries between the gossip, the gossipmonger, and the person being gossiped about, while contrasting gossip’s ephemerality with painting’s desire for permanence—all within the art fair, a space typically prone to speculation and rumor.

Felipe Barsuglia

Felipe Barsuglia works with painting, video, installation, and anything else that makes sense, or not. Exploring the tension between euphoria and exhaustion, laughter and tears, his work transforms fragments of everyday life into cultural microcosms, mixing the sublime and the grotesque, the erudite and the popular. Comedy emerges as a strategy of thought, creating a “primordial soup” of boiling forms and signs that reveal the bad mood, euphoria, and precariousness of the contemporary experience. Recently participated in the group exhibition Head Stretch at Andrew Kreps Gallery (2026), presented the solo booth Pinturas de Ressaca at SP–Arte (2025), and held the solo exhibitions; “Plin Plin” (Sardenberg, São Paulo, 2024), “Cansado” (Central Gallery, São Paulo, 2023), “Legal” (Lanterna Mágica, São Paulo, 2022), and “Milanesa” (Anita Schwartz Gallery, Rio de Janeiro, 2020).

Gabriel Secchin

Gabriel Secchin (1989, Rio de Janeiro) centers his artistic practice on painting, while over the past 15 years also working with sound performance, installation, video, and objects. His works emerge from the interconnectedness of the world’s elements, materializing through free associations and visual analogies. The cosmology of his practice brings together unlikely combinations of the trivial, the sacred, the biological, and the esoteric, giving rise to mythopoetic metamorphoses of perceived reality. His professional trajectory began with his participation in Abre Alas 9 in 2013 at A Gentil Carioca, curated by Alexandre Sá, Daniela Castro, and João Modé. His first solo exhibition, “O Testemunho” (“The Testimony”), followed in 2014 at Portas Vilaseca Galeria, curated by Bernardo Mosqueira. In 2017 he presented “Stracciatella-Flocos” at GC2 Contemporary in Terni, Italy. His most recent solo project, “Hora de Morfar”, curated by Felipe Barsuglia, was presented in São Paulo in March 2025.
